A man is seen receiving a caning for violating sharia law in Lhokseumawe, on March 30, 2022, in Aceh Province, Indonesia. According to reports, around 10 people consisting of five men and five women have been sentenced to lashes of 30 to 100 strokes each for violating sharia law in cases of adultery, sexual harassment, and gambling. Caning is a form of punishment imposed in Aceh for violating Islamic law. Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that applies sharia as positive law.
