Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople has visited Hagia Fotini Church in Izmir, Turkey upon the invitation of Izmir metropolitan Bartholomew Samaras. Bartholomew I, has officiated the sunday mass of the church and blessed the crowded community which was occured by different nations such as Greek, Turkish, Russian and Romanian. Bartholomew I is a spiritual leader of the Eastern Orthodox Christians worldwide. He is the 270th archbishop of Constantinople and Ecumenical Patriarch, since 2 November 1991. Also the Greek chuch that is the only one actively has been hosting the Orthodox community in Izmir, is very symbolic and important church especially for Greeks. Hagia Fotini Greek Orthodox Church; the modern structured church bears the same name of the no longer exists church in Izmir. The original building was collapsed in the great fire of 1922.
