The Loy Krathong festival of lights is held according to the Thai lunar calendar at full moon on the twelfth month across Thailand and dates back more than 700 years. Thais set adrift lanterns and float lotus-shaped trays containing flowers, candles and incense on rivers, lakes and oceans, with a prayer to let all their bad luck of the past year float away, so that their misfortunes will be replaced with good fortune in the year to come.
