A Hindu devotee is performing a ritual near the Ganges River in Kolkata, India, on October 6, 2023. In the Hindu religion, many types of fasts are observed for children, including the Jitiya fast. Also known as Jivitputrika Vrat and Jiutiya festival, the Jitiya fast begins with Nahay Khay and continues through Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami. It is believed that mothers observe the Jitiya fast for the birth of a son or for their son's long life. This is a waterless fast, during which even water is not consumed. Information on which day the Jitiya Vrat will be observed in the first week of October this year and how to worship this Vrat is provided here.
