Historical Place of Alipur Jail Museum

The Alipore Jail Museum, a national historical landmark located in the heart of Kolkata, is currently being restored to its original glory by the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO). The museum, which houses 116-year-old records, is now open to the general public. Architect Partha Ranjan Das is overseeing the conservation efforts. The museum's significance is heightened by the fact that prominent national figures such as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Rishi Aurobindo, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Bidhan Chandra Roy were once imprisoned here. The museum narrates the poignant stories of Indian freedom fighters. The Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, officially opened the museum on September 21. Since September 23, it has been accessible to the general public. The Alipore Jail Museum features gallows, a watch tower, special cells, general cells, a library, a seminar hall, a light and sound show, and exhibitions. The light and sound shows are being held from 6:30 to 7:30 and 7:30 to 8:30, and the exhibitions are located in Cell 5 and the Hospital Building.
