Historical Place of Alipur Jail Museum

The Alipore Jail Museum, located in the heart of Kolkata, is currently showcasing the restored buildings of Alipore Jail, complete with 116-year-old records, thanks to the efforts of the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO). Architect Partha Ranjan Das is overseeing the conservation efforts. The museum, which was officially opened by the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, on September 21, is now open to the public. The museum's significance is heightened by the fact that prominent national figures such as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Rishi Aurobindo, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Bidhan Chandra Roy were once imprisoned here. The museum is telling the poignant stories of Indian freedom fighters. The Alipore Jail Museum complex includes gallows, a watch tower, special cells, general cells, a library, a seminar hall, a light and sound show (with two shows running from 6:30 to 7:30 and 7:30 to 8:30), and exhibitions (one in Cell 5 and another in the Hospital Building).
