Volcano Erupts in Iceland, Marking Fifth Eruption Since 2021 in the Reykjanes Peninsula

On Sunday, a volcanic eruption occurred in southwest Iceland, causing molten lava flows to reach the outskirts of a nearby small fishing town by the afternoon. This led to some houses catching fire. Fortunately, the town had been evacuated earlier, and there were no immediate dangers to people, according to authorities. The eruption started early Sunday north of the town. This evacuation marked the second time since November that residents had to leave due to concerns of an impending eruption, spurred by increased seismic activity in the area, as reported by authorities. Additionally, the renowned geothermal spa, Blue Lagoon, announced its closure on Sunday through its website. This recent eruption is the fifth event of its kind in the Reykjanes peninsula since the year 2021.
