International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Observed annually on January 27th, International Holocaust Remembrance Day memorializes the millions of Jews and other victims who died in the Holocaust. This date was chosen to coincide with the 1945 liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the most notorious Nazi extermination camp. Initiated by the United Nations in 2005, the day serves to honor those who suffered and died, while emphasizing the importance of educating about the Holocaust to prevent such atrocities in the future.
