The protesters, brandishing Polish national flags and anti-government banners, are spearheaded by leaders of the far-right media outlets Gazeta Polska and TV Republika, along with the Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość - PiS) political party. The Law and Justice party, which governed Poland for eight years, was defeated in the last election in October 2023 and has since become a right-wing opposition force against a more centrist and liberal ruling coalition. The leading political entity in this coalition is the Civic Coalition, under the leadership of Donald Tusk, the former President of the Council of the EU and the current Prime Minister of Poland. The sitting Constitutional Court judges were appointed during the tenure of the PiS party. Both factions are accusing each other of unconstitutional conduct regarding the Constitutional Court.
