Several dozens people gathered at spontaneous rally in Warsaw on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024 as they paid tribute to Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny whose death Moscow announced hours earlier. Navalny, who won a huge following with his criticism of corruption in Vladimir Putin's Russia, died on Friday in an Arctic prison colony where he was serving a 19-year term. The demonstration held in front of the Russian embassy in the Polish capital drew around 100 people, most of them young and many visibly shaken by the death of the opposition leader. Candles flickered and flowers were laid at the fence surrounding the closely guarded building hosting the Russian embassy. The participants chanted slogans including "Putin -- a killer", vowing to "never forget nor forgive" the dissident's death.
