Workers Renovate Provincial Assembly Building in Peshawar Ahead of Oath-Taking Ceremony

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly building ahead of the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected provincial legislators in Peshawar, Pakistan, on 27 February 2024. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly session was scheduled for 28 February at 11 am, where lawmakers were to take their oaths in accordance with Article 65 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Following the general elections on 8 February, PTI-backed independent candidates secured 97 seats, with Imran Khan nominating Ali Amin Gandapur as the KP Chief Minister and Aqibullah Khan as the assembly speaker. PTI's independent candidates planned to join the Sunni Ittehad Council to form governments at the Centre, in Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The PTI's decision to contest independently came after the Supreme Court invalidated its intra-party polls, leading to the loss of their electoral symbol. The Awami National Party announced a protest against alleged rigging in the general elections, outside the KP Assembly on the inaugural session day.
