The Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, has announced that L'Aquila will be the Italian Capital of Culture in 2026, adopting the slogan "L'Aquila. City Multiverse." This decision came after a competition among ten finalist cities, each presenting their proposals and slogans to a selection jury. The jury, chaired by journalist and writer Davide Maria Desario, director of the Adkronos news agency, evaluated the submissions during two public hearings held on March 4th and 5th.
