Muharram processions banned in Kashmir Valley
Kashmiri Shia Muslim mourners shout pro freedom and religious slogans as they were detained after they took out 8th Muharram procession in Srinagar, on September 8, 2019. Restrictions were re-imposed in parts of Kashmir on Tuesday to prevent any processions from being organised on the 10th day of the Muslim month of Muharram. The processions stand banned in Kashmir since 1990 when armed militancy began.
