At 2 a.m. on 25 April 2024, the blades of the world's most famous mill fell. The event is unique in the more than 100-year history of the Variety Theatre, which opened on 6 October 1891. The Moulin Rouge management has ruled out an act of vandalism and speaks of a technical problem, the causes of which will have to be clarified. The movement of the blades, driven by a motor, is checked by a third company every two months and the Moulin Rouge staff carries out a weekly visual check on the operation of the blades. But something went wrong during the night, shortly after the end of the last show. There were no injuries, the blades were removed immediately and the Moulin Rouge reopened regularly in the evening.
