June 2024 has set a new global record as the hottest June ever, according to the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). The month's global average temperature reached 61.98°F (16.66°C), which is 0.67°C above the 1991-2020 average for June and 0.14°C higher than the previous record set in June 2023. This marks the thirteenth consecutive month to set a record high for its respective month in the ERA5 data record, a sequence last observed in 2015/2016. Additionally, the temperature was 1.50°C above the pre-industrial average for June 1850-1900, exceeding the 1.5°C threshold for the twelfth consecutive month. Over the past year, from July 2023 to June 2024, the global average temperature has been the highest on record, at 0.76°C above the 1991-2020 average and 1.64°C above the pre-industrial levels.
