Procession of 8th Muharram in Kashmir, India

Kashmiri Shia Muslims are taking to the streets to commemorate the seventh day of Muharram in Kashmir on July 14th. Mourners are carrying religious flags, Palestinian flags, and Hezbollah flags to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. They are shouting anti-Israeli and pro-Palestine slogans, and also reciting religious poems during the procession. For the second consecutive year, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is allowing the 8th Muharram procession from Guru Bazar to Dalgate in Srinagar. Despite a longstanding ban, Shia Muslims are continuing these processions, often facing police action. This year's procession is marking a significant and peaceful commemoration of Hazrat Imam Hussain's (AS) martyrdom, attracting thousands of mourners. The ban, in place for over three decades, was lifted last year, a decision warmly welcomed by the community and Shia leaders. The route is starting at Guru Bazar, passing through Budshah Kadal and Moulana Azad Road, and ending at Dalgate.
