Germany has introduced controls at all of its borders on 16 September, 2024. One of the main crossings from Poland to Germany in Frankfurt an der Oder is also subject to the new border checks slowing down traffic and resulting in long queues of cars, trucks and pedestrians trying to enter Germany. The German government says the controls are necessary to combat "irregular migration". Quote 1: "For us, there is a very big problem with controls here. I live in France in general and for me there is a double problem, because once I am in Poland, once in France and unfortunately I have to wait a long time. Although I am also here on a service, it is also a very big problem for us." Quote 2:"We are no longer used to functioning like this, because a lot of Poles work in Germany, so the Germans are kind of locking up their employees, people commute every day, which is a problem. And there are very big traffic jams in Slubice."
