Corn, also known as maize in North American English, is a staple food and an important crop in many parts of the world. Maize is grown in many states in India, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. Corn grows best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It's sensitive to waterlogging, so it's best to plant in sandy-loam or silty-loam soil. Corn needs at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. This crop needs a specific amount of water; too much or too little can cause problems. The roots can rot if the soil is too wet, and the plants will wilt if it's too dry. The ideal time to sow corn depends on the monsoon. The field should be well-pulverized and smooth for the seeds and roots to emerge. Knowing the growth stages of corn helps growers time field operations, such as fertilizer, irrigation, cultivation, harvest, and pesticide application. Here, in two fields, corn seedlings have sprouted from the corn seeds on one side, while the corn seedlings in the other field have grown a little larger in fertile soil at Tehatta, West Bengal; India on 25/12/2024.
