The annual Chitwan Elephant festival starts in Nepal's famous wildlife tourism destination Sauraha, Chitwan, some 154 kilometers from Kathmandu. The Elephant festival was planned to have various activities and games of elephants, but due to protests by animal rights organizers canceled some games played by the elephants. The Chitwan Elephant festival is organized by the regional hotel association of Sauraha to promote tourism in Nepal.
