A spokesperson from Jews for Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ) addresses the crowd at an immigrant rights’ rally at Foley Square in New York City to demand justice for Eric Diaz and Gaspar Avendano-Hernandez following a violent altercation between Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and the family just two days prior. During the attempted arrest of Avendano-Hernandez, a plain-clothed ICE agent reportedly shot 26-year-old Eric Diaz in the face as ICE was trying to arrest his mother’s boyfriend, Gaspar Avendano-Hernandez. The officers reportedly failed to show proper documentation, including a warrant or badges. Avendano-Hernandez was taken from Maimonides Medical Center and is being detained.
