The city of Ghent chooses to remove the bust of Leopold II in Zuidpark, a symbol of the colonial past of Belgium, in Ghent, Belgium, on June 30, 2020. The removal was requested by the decolonization working group, which was set past year, with the purpose of developing a participative project relating Belgium colonial past and the impact of that past on the present. The bust was already vandalized various times after the Black lives matter protest, the removal is just a step in the debate and fight against racism, discrimination, and violence.
