90-year-old retired police officer Francisco Del Carmen undergoes dialysis on the day of his release from the World Citi Medical Center in Quezon City, July 9, 2020. After testing positive for Covid-19 last June 24, Del Carmen battled the disease for 19 days and overcame the sickness that claimed the lives of countless people. Doctors and nurses were surprised to see that at such an age, Francisco showed signs of fast recovery. On July 9, Francisco Del Carmen was finally sent home. He rode an ambulance owned by the village he resides in, wherein he’s a security consultant. - Dr. Gino Natividad, Internal Medicine senior resident doctor “We thought he wouldn’t make it, a 50-50 chance of surviving. But then we were surprised because he responded well to the treatment until we removed the tube. He survived. It just makes us feel so happy.” - Head Nurse Marygrace Brondo laughs as Francisco responds joyfully. - Cerilda, Francisco’s 60-year-old wife shares their experiences in their room. “I'm free, I'm happy, and I'm strong. Right? Just like what you said. That’s why right now we’re so happy. Money? We will always have chances to earn money. What’s most important is the life of my husband. That he survives this disease.
