Several thousand people, mainly women protested against plans by the Polish government, supported by Catholic organisations such as Ordo Iuris to withdraw from the Istanbul-Convention in Warsaw, Poland on July 24, 2020. The convention to protect women against violence is deemed especially important in the largely Catholic country where 73 percent of victims of domestic violence are women and 90 percent of the perpetrators are men. Catholic organisations lobbying for withdrawal of the convention argue the convention threatens traditional family values.
