98th anniversary of 9 September Independence Day of Izmir was celebrated in Cumhuriyet Square in Izmir, in Turkey on 9 September, 2020 with official ceremony which was closed to public due the Coronavirus outbreak. Governor of Izmir Yavuz Selim Köşger, Mayor of Izmir Tunç Soyer, Aegean Army Commander and Army Officiers attemped to the official ceremony. After wreath-laying ceremony to the Ataturk's statue, aerobatic demonstration team of the Turkish Air Force Turkish Stars and Solo Turk were demonstrated an airshow. After stand in silence , the turkish national anthem was sang. Mayor Soyer gave a speech about the day. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's message was also read at the ceremony. Second offical ceremony was orginazed in front of the historical building of Izmir Governorship in Konak,in Izmir on same day. Governor of Izmir Yavuz Selim Köşger, Mayor of Izmir Tunç Soyer, Aegean Army Commander and Army Officiers attemped to the official ceremony. Soldiers who have historical uniform and flags performed a show in the ceremony and ran a Turkish flag up a flagpole for reinvigoration of the scene of Greek- Turkish war.
