On Sunday 18 October 2020, people from Nantes gathered in Nantes to pay homage to Samuel Paty, history teacher at the College du Bois d'Aulne in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, beheaded on 16 October 2020 by an Islamist of Chechen origin who reproached him for having shown caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed published by Charlie Hebdo to his pupils during a course on freedom of expression and the right to blasphemy. Beyond the tribute paid to the victim of this attack, this gathering initiated by trade unions whose Snes-FSU aimed to support the teaching profession, freedom of expression and to reaffirm the rejection of obscurantism.
