President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron during the press conference held at the Elysée Palace at the conclusion of the summit with Mohamed El-Menfi, President of the Libyan Presidential Council, and Moussa Al-Koni, Vice-President of the Libyan Presidential Council, in Paris, on March 23, 2021. SOUND: “To the Libyan authorities, unified as a result of the political transition process that France has been calling for for several years and to which we have actively contributed. I remember today the meeting in La Celle-Saint-Cloud that we organised in July 2017. I also remember the international conference in Paris in May 2018, which set the main milestones of this transition process that the Libyans, together, were able to set in motion with the help of the United Nations. The positive dialogue we have just had confirmed this desire to work together so that Libya recovers its stability, sovereignty and unity. That is to say that we had an excellent exchange and I am very, very admiring of the courage and determination of the President and the Vice-President. I also have the opportunity to receive the Prime Minister. But this is not just a support of words. It is a full support. Firstly, because we clearly owe Libya and the Libyans a debt of gratitude after a decade of disorder. Secondly, because I believe that the Libyan people have the right to see a country in stability recover their full sovereignty”.
