L'Aquila marks the twelve anniversary of the earthquake that stock the center of Italy. An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 on the Richter magnitude scale and 6.3 on the moment magnitude scale with its epicenter was near L'Aquila, took place on April 6, 2009, damaging the city and surrounding villages. The earthquake was felt throughout central Italy, with 309 people died, making it the deadliest earthquake to hit Italy since the 1980 Irpinia earthquake.
