Thailand celebrates the traditional new year Songkran festival, also known as water festival, with most events being cancelled following a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases at Wat Pho temple in Bangkok, Thailand, 13 April 2021. Songkran celebrations or Thai traditional New Year, after the latest COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic outbreak that linked to several entertainment venues in Bangkok is identified as a highly contagious British variant strain of the virus that caused hundreds of people to test positive across the country. The event was canceled in several areas for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Usually the Songkran Festival is held for three days to mark the Thai traditional New Year, falling annually on 13 April.
