Demonstration in Piazza dell'Esquilino, Rome, Italy, on June 12, 2021, organized by the Italian Forum of Water Movements. Ten years ago a broad and determined coalition sanctioned a historic victory in Italy with 27 million 'Yes' votes in the referendums on water, public services, and nuclear power, forcing those who had imposed privatization for decades to take a step backward. Since December 2020, water, like any other commodity, has been listed on the stock exchange. This is an epoch-making step that opens the door to speculation by big capital and the marginalization of territories and populations and according to demonstrators, it constitutes a serious threat to fundamental human rights.
