Livestock market ahead of Eid al-Adha celebration in Kolkata

A livestock market in Kolkata , India , on 17 July 2021 , ahead of bakra eid or Eid al_Adha ,Arabic for Festival of sacrifice ,celebration in Kolkata . The festival commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to gods command , but before he could do the act , Allah intervened and provided a lamb to sacrifice instead . In commemoration of this , animals are sacrificed ritually on the day of Eid al-Adha . One third of the meat is consumed by the family members , while the rest is distributed to poor and needy .
