Mid-August (Ferragosto in Italian), is a holiday of ancient Roman origin, modernly celebrated on August 15 in the Italian geographical region. The day of Ferragosto is traditionally dedicated to trips outside the city, packed lunches and given the seasonal heat, to refreshing baths in sea water, river or lake. Very popular is also the exodus to mountainous or hilly locations, in search of refreshment.
