Migrants and refugees disembarkation operations in Trapani, Sicily, as seen from the rescue vessel Aquarius, on February 24, 2017. The migrants were rescued from boats in distress adrift in the Mediterranean by the Aquarius rescue team. The Italian Red Cross personnel provides them with basic clothes. Fleeing from wars, conflicts, famine, humanitarian crisis and economical distress in their own countries, and escaping the horror and the abuses reported in Libya, since early 2015 hundreds of thousands of migrants attempted to reach Europe by any possible mean. Tragedy after tragedy, many died trying to cross the Mediterranean, and numerous refugee camps arose again in the heart of Europe. It is the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
