Kartik Naach (Kartik Dance) festival observed in Kathmandu Valley

A Nepalese artist dressed as Lord Narsimha performs traditional dance during Kartik Naach festival at Patan Durbar Square, Lalitpur, Nepal on Thursday, November 18, 2021. The dance depicts the story of how Lord Vishnu incarnated as a half lion half human called Narsimha and killed Hiranya Kashipu to protect Prahald, the son of Hiranya Kashipu who was also a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Kartik Naach is a historic dance festival which occurs every year in the month of Kartik (October-November) at Patan Durbar Square. This dance festival is one of the oldest festivals in Nepal. The religious dance is performed over 10 days which started during the Malla period by King Siddhi Narsingh Malla of Patan in the 17th century.
